Brandon Davina, 40, was found guilty on January 26th 2026, in the death of Brianna Jankauskas, who was killed on the night of Aug. 21, 2023.

The two had met in person for the first time the previous day after communicating for several weeks through the dating app Tinder.

According to reports the verdict was delivered by Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick following a 14-day trial that concluded in November.

During testimony, Davina admitted he repeatedly struck Jankauskas in the head using an 18-inch crescent wrench. He told the court he had been consuming alcohol throughout the day and claimed the attack followed an argument in which Jankauskas allegedly slapped him and verbally insulted him.

Although Davina acknowledged causing her death, his defence lawyer, Jordan Watt, argued that Davina’s level of intoxication meant he lacked the intent required for a murder conviction. The defence also raised provocation, suggesting Jankauskas’ actions led Davina to lose control. Based on those arguments, the defence sought a manslaughter verdict instead.

In her decision, Justice Fitzpatrick rejected both claims. She ruled that the evidence supported a finding that Davina had the necessary intent, ultimately convicting him of second-degree murder rather than manslaughter.
