Update: Matthew Yousufy Charged – Second Homicide of 2026 Under Investigation After Early-Morning Shooting of Ramone Thomas in London Ontario

London police were called after a resident reported hearing several gunshots at approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

On arrival officers found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. The second man remains hospitalized and is expected to survive, though his injuries are considered serious.

No arrests have been made, and the case has now been taken over by the Major Crime Section.

Update: The victim has been identified as Ramone Thomas, 26, of Toronto, who was pronounced deceased.

Police have arrested Matthew Yousufy, 26, of London, in connection with the incident. He is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, as well as failing to stop for police during a pursuit.

Additional charges relate to firearms and court-order violations. These include possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without the required licence and registration, possession of a loaded or unloaded regulated firearm, three counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order. He has also been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to reappear in London court on February 5, 2026, in relation to the charges.

Investigators are especially seeking dash-cam footage or residential and business surveillance video recorded between 3:30 a.m. and 4:15 a.m. on January 25, 2026, in the area of Dundas Street near Hewitt Street.
