Police were called shortly after noon on Wednesday, January 21st, to a home on 52 Avenue in Vermilion, where officers discovered the body of a 30-year-old man, according to a news release issued Friday.

Investigators spoke with the person who found the man and have since handed the case over to the major crimes unit.

One man was arrested at the scene but later released, and the RCMP have not provided further information about the arrest or the decision to release him.

Update: On April 25, 2026, Vermilion RCMP, along with Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit, arrested a suspect in connection with the January 21 killing of 30-year-old Vermilion resident Brady Greg Snelgrove.

Investigators had obtained an arrest warrant for 28-year-old Cole Erich Hill on April 22 after gathering enough evidence to lay charges. Police believe Hill fled Alberta following the homicide.

With help from the public and RCMP units in Sooke and the West Shore, officers tracked Hill down and arrested him in Sooke, B.C.

Hill, who has no fixed address, has been charged with second-degree murder. He remains in custody and will be returned to Alberta to appear in court.
