Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Police officers responded to the area of Westminster Avenue and Haynes Street on a report that a man had been shot on April 15th at approximately 10:30am. As police were driving to the property they were notified that another person had been shot.
At 11:30 am police located a suspect matching the description turned himself in to RCMP Penticton detachment. Police then determined four people are deceased at three locations within a 5 km radius.
The names of the victims will not be released at the request of families. Police did say the victims were two men and two women.
John Brittain, a former city engineer, as “a gentle person,” by the Mayor of Penticton. RCMP are investigating possible motive.
Update October 6th
According to reports, the crown and defence lawyers said John Brittain plans to plead guilty to three charges of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder in connection with the killings.
