RCMP responded to a disturbance in the hamlet of Desmarais at 2:18am on July 31.  Police arrived at the scene to find 21 year old Joelle Cardinal from Bigstone Cree Nation.

Cardinal was pronounced dead at the scene, police said Cardinal suffered from an “intentional traumatic injury.”

Dwayne Beauregard 20, Cardinals ex boyfriend and father of her two daughters is facing second degree murder charge in the stabbing death.
