The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken conduct of the investigation into the body of the adult man located deceased in a Surrey fire

On January 5, 2025, around 4 pm, Surrey Police Service (SPS) was notified by Surrey Fire Service after firefighters discovered the body of an adult man inside a structure fire at an abandoned house in the 9800 block of 138th Street, Surrey.

Firefighters found the deceased man as they worked to control the active blaze. SPS frontline officers quickly arrived on the scene, securing the area and canvassing the neighborhood for potential witnesses and surveillance footage.

At this early stage, the cause of the man’s death remains undetermined, and his death is being treated as suspicious until further investigation.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now leading the investigation. While the exact cause of death hasn’t been determined yet, it is being treated as suspicious.

At this early investigation stage, IHIT is collaborating with Surrey Police Service officers to carry out essential tasks.
