An investigation into the disappearance of a Lions Bay man has now become a homicide case, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) taking over the file.

Squamish RCMP first received a missing person report on May 18th after Stewart McLean had not been seen since May 15. Police say McLean was last seen at his home in Lions Bay before investigators uncovered evidence suggesting he may have been the victim of a homicide.

IHIT officially assumed control of the investigation on May 20, while Squamish RCMP and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service continue assisting with the case.

On Friday May 22nd, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed that McLean’s remains had been located and identified in the Lions Bay area.

Investigators say they are now working to establish a timeline of his final movements, reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews as they continue to gather evidence.

Actor Stewart McLean appeared in a number of television series, with IMDb credits including Virgin River, Murder in a Small Town, and Less Than Nothing.

The investigation remains ongoing.
