Hostage taker is one of two deceased in Campbell River

RCMP officers, the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team and crisis negotiators responded to a report of a homicide and hostage-taking at Discovery Harbour Authority on June 13th.

Officers confirmed the safety of the hostages and made contact with the male suspect. Negotiations were attempted with the man, who was reported to be in possession of a weapon. While interacting with the man shots were fired and he was pronounced deceased.

Two investigations are underway. The Campbell River Major Crimes Unit is investigating the homicide and asking anyone with information to come forward, while the Independent Investigations Office. Police officers fired shots and the Independent Investigations Office will determine whether anyone other than police fired shots.

Update: Ryan Langlois as one of two men killed at a Campbell River marina, however, police have not confirmed if Langlois died before or after their arrival .
