Orillia OPP identify homicide victim as Derek Simmerson

Orillia OPP and Simcoe County EMS responded to a report of a man suffering from serious injuries in the Coldwater Road and Emily Street area on November 19th at approximately 8:22pm.

The victim was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Det. Insp. Matt Watson said the 34-year-old man was the victim of a homicide but could not confirm a cause of death. An autopsy has been scheduled at Toronto on Saturday.

Police believe there’s no elevated risk to public safety at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

Update: The victim has been identified as 34-year old  Derek Simmerson. Orillia OPP arrested Justice Snache, 19, of Severn Township on November 22. Snache is expected to face first degree murder charge.
