The 2025 Hamilton Homicide Victim List is available here
Hamilton Police responded to the area of 77 Governors Road for a report of gunshots on July 27th at approximately 5:00pm.
On arrival, officers located the victim, 25-year-old Zachary Shuman of Dundas, unresponsive. He was pronounced deceased shortly after at the scene. Police said a grey Dodge Ram belonging to Zachary was also discovered nearby.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help his parents raise Zachary’s 3-year-old daughter, Briar.
Witnesses reported seeing a blue Ford Edge leaving the scene. The vehicle has not yet been located, and investigators are seeking information from anyone who may know the vehicle or its driver to come forward.

Police confirmed that the drivers of both vehicles had a brief interaction in the Metro parking lot at 15 Governor’s Road in Dundas shortly before the shooting took place.
Police also believe a woman was in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the events. She is described as having shoulder-length brown hair and wearing red or orange shorts. Investigators are urging her to come forward and speak with them.
Update July 29th: Hamilton police report that a witness who was seen fleeing the scene of a deadly shooting in Dundas has now come forward.
Update: On August 12, Hamilton police reported that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the homicide of Zachary. On Sunday, August 10, 2025, officers took 30-year-old Andrew Kowalik from Dundas into custody and charged him with second-degree murder. The following day, Monday, August 11, 2025, 27-year-old Mussie Gebremariam of Kitchener was also arrested and faces the same charge. Staff Sergeant Sara Beck Said Gebremariam is a known drug trafficker.
Both accused were known to the victim. They appeared in court on August 11, 2025, and were remanded into custody.
