Hamilton police charge David Gomez-Rodriguez with second degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Charles James Francis Jouvence, the city’s third homicide this month

Hamilton Police were dispatched to a 911 call in the area of Hunter Street and Spring Street in the afternoon of March 16th.

Upon arrival, police located 74-year-old Charles James Francis Jouvence commonly called Jacques, on the porch of his home suffering from a stab wound. Police said the Jouvence had succumbed to his injuries.

Moments later, Officers interacted with a 30-year-old suspect inside the home and the SIU has invoked their mandate as a result. 

  • According to the SIU website:
  • Shortly before 4 p.m. on March 16, 2025, Hamilton Police Service officers responded to an apartment building in the area of Hunter Street East and Spring Street for an assault call.
  • Soon after officers entered an apartment unit, they located a man armed with an edged weapon.
  • An interaction ensued, and at least one officer discharged their firearm. The man was struck.
  • He was transported to hospital for treatment.

Update: On Sunday, March 23, 2025, Hamilton Police arrested 30-year-old David Gomez-Rodriguez, who has no fixed address, on charges of second-degree murder. While some details of the incident remain unclear, it is believed that Gomez-Rodriguez and the victim, Jouvence, were not previously acquainted. Gomez-Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
