Update: Colin Marcotte admits to fatally beating Patrick Chaddock – Hamilton Homicide #8 – Police investigate the homicide of Patrick Chaddock at 737 Barton Street East

Hamilton police responded a to disturbance at 737 Barton Street East on June 13th.

Police said they located a male in his 50 with signs of blunt force trauma in the second floor hallway. The victim was rushed to the Hamilton General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Hamilton police have identified the deceased as long time tenant of the building, Patrick Chaddock, 59.

According to Hamilton police, “Witnesses report a verbal altercation that occurred inside the building prior to the discovery of the male victim by other tenants of the premise. At this time, investigators do not have any suspect(s) descriptions available.”

Colin Marcotte, 47, was arrested and charged with second degree murder. Police said Marcotte was associated to the premise through other tenants, however, was not currently residing there. There was no relationship between the victim and the accused.

Update, On November 6th, 2023, 50-year-old Colin Marcotte admitted to fatally beating 59-year-old Chaddock to death. He was initially charged with second-degree murder, but that charge was withdrawn after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Marcotte was sentenced to eight years in prison, but after credit for time served in pretrial custody, including about four months of credit during the pandemic and frequent lockdowns, he has four years and one month on his sentence.
