Update: Charges dropped against Keishawn Elton Jerius Stephenson in the 2022 homicide of Simon Joseph Morrison – Halifax police investigate the fatal shooting of a man on Brunswick Street

Halifax police responded to a weapons call at 1:37 a.m on April 16th in the 2400 block of Brunswick Street.

On arrival police located a man suffering from gunshot injuries. He was pronounced at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone with information or video from the area is asked to contact police at 902-490-5020.

Update: Halifax police have identified the victim as 18-year-old Simon Joseph Morrison.

On March 8, 2023, investigators from the Special Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, with the assistance of York Regional Police, arrested 19-year-old Keishawn Elton Jerius Stephenson of Halifax in Markham Ontario. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court next week to face a charge of Second Degree Murder.

Update December 21st 2023
The second-degree murder charge against Stephenson was dropped on Thursday, December 21st, 2023.  According to CBC, The Crown prosecution said there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction due to evidentiary concerns. Stephenson’s lawyer Eugene Tan, said a witness provided information that was different from what they had in an original statement.
