Manitoba 2026 Homicide Victim List

On the morning of August 9, 2026, Manitoba First Nation Police Service officers were called to a home in Long Plain First Nation after EMS reported that a young child was experiencing a medical emergency and had sustained injuries.

Officers arrived shortly before 7:45 a.m. and assisted paramedics in providing medical treatment. Despite their efforts, the four-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other girls, aged one and two, were also found inside the home. Both were taken to hospital for treatment. One was initially listed in critical condition, while the other was considered stable. Police later confirmed that both children are now in stable condition.

Because of the circumstances surrounding the four-year-old’s death and the significant injuries suffered by the other children, Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services was called in to assist with the investigation and has taken over the case.

“This is extremely troubling,” said Superintendent Rob Lasson, Officer in Charge of Major Crime Services. He said investigators understand that the community is seeking answers about what happened inside the home and assured residents that RCMP investigators are working closely with the Manitoba First Nation Police Service and Long Plain First Nation.

Lasson also expressed condolences to the child’s family, the community and others affected by the tragedy.

The investigation remains ongoing. RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services are continuing their work with assistance from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
