Tragedy struck the community of Whitefish Lake, Alberta, on January 23, 2026, when 39-year-old Kirk Grey was found dead near Slave Lake. Grey, had reportedly planned to spend time with friends and travel to Edmonton.
According to a family member, Grey was in the company of several individuals from Whitefish Lake and Cadotte Lake before his death. The family source stated that a witness led them to the location near Slave Lake, where Grey’s body was discovered. Police confirmed that the investigation into Grey’s death is ongoing.
The family has expressed frustration with what they say has been a slow response from authorities and have called for greater awareness of the case. They emphasize the need for public attention to ensure that Grey’s death does not become a cold case, particularly given concerns about violence in small and Indigenous communities.
