Edmonton police search for Abdullahi Are, 33, in connection to the 2022 Edmonton murder of Ahmed Mohamed

On December 18, 2022, Edmonton police responded to a weapons complaint at a suite near 103 Street and 106 Avenue at approximately 4:45am.

On arrival police located a 23-year-old male suffering from serious, non-life-threatening injuries. Police then went to a secondary scene a convenience store, near 104 Street and 107 Avenue where they located Ahmed Mohamed, 36, of Edmonton with life-threatening gunshot injuries. Mohamed was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Update: On Oct. 26, 2023, during a vehicle stop, EPS Homicide detectives arrested Hamdi Abdi-Ahmed, 30, who was wanted on a warrant for second-degree murder regarding Mohamed’s death.

Investigators also recently issued second-degree murder warrants for the arrest of Abdullahi Are, 33, and Ahmed Osman, 34, in connection to Mohamed’s death. Osman is also wanted on warrants for use of a firearm in commission of the offence of aggravated assault and possessing a firearm knowing the serial number is altered/defaced/removed.

Update Ahmed Osman, 34, turned himself into police Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, after an Edmonton Police Service (EPS) News Release with his name and charges was distributed to media on Friday, Oct. 27th.
