Zakaria Sheek-Hussein was severely beaten at Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre on February 24th, 2021. The victim was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries in late July.

According to CBC the beating occurred inside the showers of the jail and Police do not believe any weapons were used in the attack. Donald Musselman was previously charged with aggravated assault in relation to the fatal beating.

*Musselman had been jail awaiting trial for murder in the Ottawa murder of Hip Hop artist Markland Campbell.

Ottawa police’s homicide unit upgraded an aggravated assault charge against Musselman to second-degree murder.
