Calgary police were flagged down by a citizen seeking help for a man in medical distress who was found in the Whitehorn Safeway parking lot, on July 18th.

Police attended the scene and provided first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. The victim, 40-year-old Darrin Thomas Amond was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries on July 30th.

Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta said  “We are looking for assistance from anyone who may have witnessed the assault or suspicious activity leading up to the assault.” Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877

Jeremy Whincup, 26, was charged with second degree murder in relation to the death of Darrin Amond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020.
