Cassie Acorn charged with the murder of her 3-month-old daughter in Charlottetown PEI

The Charlottetown Police Major Crime Unit has charged 39-year-old Cassie Acorn, a resident of Charlottetown, with murder under sections 229(a)(ii) and 235(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The charge follows an investigation into the death of her 3-month-old daughter.

Charlottetown Police said the infant identified in an obituary as Winter Elizabeth Rose Acorn, passed away on March 20, 2025, at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, where she was receiving treatment for injuries that were reportedly sustained during an incident in Charlottetown on March 16, 2025.

Det.-Sgt. Darren MacDougall told CBC News “swelling and bleeding in the child’s brain and ultimately her death.”

Acorn made her first appearance in P.E.I. Supreme Court on April 10, and has now been released with conditions on her activities in place.
