Update Charges Laid – Calgary police investigate the homicide of Mayiel Deng Kiir

Calgary police said a man in his early 20s was dropped off at the emergency department of the Peter Lougheed Centre on July 24th at approximately 4:30am.

The victim, 20-year-old Mayiel Deng Kiir died of his injuries which were believed to have been sustained in a confrontation with an unknown individual. Police believe the altercation took place at approximately 3:30am at a Highland Park residence, located in the 100 block of 42 Avenue N.E.

Staff Sergeant Colin Chisolm of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit said “We are still in the process of examining all evidence, including CCTV that has been collected, and encourage anyone with information to contact police.”

Update August 6th
Calgary police arrested Samuel Kong Liong, 21, at a home in Calgary on August 5th. Liong has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the homicide of Mayiel Kiir.
