Calgary Police Service and EMS responded to the report of a man in medical distress in the parking lot of the Mazaj Lounge & Restaurant, located at 9223 Macleod Trail S.W on February 19th at approximately 11:20pm.

Police and paramedics arrived to find Daniel Dudgeon, 32, deceased at the scene. The cause of death has not been released by Calgary police.

Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the CPS Homicide Unit said in a CPS press release “We believe that the victim had spent some time inside the restaurant prior to being killed. It is extremely likely that other patrons of the restaurant may have critical information that could help investigators solve the case, whether they had an interaction with the victim or not.”

Police are urging all patrons who attended the Mazaj Lounge & Restaurant on Macleod Trail, on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, between 7 p.m., and closing to call the Homicide Tip Line at 403-428-8877, or the CPS non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.

Update February 25th
Calgary police are asking anyone who was at Mazaj that evening to contact police, so far, police have only heard from one person who was a patron that night. “We often see cases where multiple people have small pieces of seemingly insignificant information that become a critical lead when all the pieces are put together,” said Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm.

A gofundme campaign has been created to help with funeral costs.
