On the morning of May 5, 2025, at around 7:45 a.m., emergency crews, including Brantford Police, Brantford Fire, and Brant County Paramedics, responded to a house fire on Buchanan Crescent.

A 49-year-old woman living in the home was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Three other adults who were also inside at the time of the fire were hospitalized for treatment. According to the Brantford Expositor, the victim was identified as Charlene Shellard.

A Gofundme campaign has been created by the victim’s aunt to help the family.

Brantford police announced on May 6th that a 40-year-old Brantford man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection to the deadly incident.
