Barrie police arrest and charge second suspect in relation to the homicide of a 47-year-old man

Barrie police were called after a confrontation between a group of individuals at before 8:20 a.m. near 24 Collier Street. Police said an injured man made his way to a Dunlop Street East business where he collapsed and initially received medical attention from the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services. 

The 47-year-old victim was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A 32-year-old male was arrested on Monday evening, and is facing charges of Second-Degree Murder, Robbery, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Assault with a Weapon.

Investigators are searching for a second suspect who is described as male, approximately 45 years old, and may be missing fingers or a thumb on one hand. At the time of the occurrence, he was wearing a brown jacket, black hooded sweatshirt, and dark pants. Anyone who may have information on this male is asked to not approach him, but to contact police.

Update:

The Barrie Police Major Crime/Homicide Unit, assisted by members of the Tactical Support Unit, Street Crime Unit and uniformed officers descended upon a Hickling Trail home where a 33-year-old male from Sudbury, Ontario was arrested without incident. He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued overnight. He has been charged with:

  • Second Degree Murder
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Robbery
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
