The 2024 Ontario Homicide Victim List is available here

On Friday May 31, 2024, at approximately 1:55 p.m., a representative from Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington attended a unit in an apartment building on Russell Street, where they located two children who had been left abandoned. No parent was present at this location and one of the two children was found to be deceased inside of the residence.

Police were notified and, after further investigation, members of the Kingston Police Major Crime Unit located the mother of the two children at an address in Napanee. At the time the mother was charged with criminal negligence causing death, failing to provide necessaries of life, and two counts of abandoning a child under 10 years old.

As a result of further investigation by the Kingston Police Major Crime Unit the initial charge of criminal negligence causing death has been changed to second-degree murder.

On September 27, 2024, the accused who was already in custody was re-arrested by detectives for the charge of second-degree murder. The accused attended another bail hearing and was subsequently remanded into custody.
