Abbotsford BC 2026 Homicide Victim List

Police in Abbotsford are investigating a fatal shooting that took place at the Whatcom Road Park & Ride, an area currently known to host a large homeless encampment on March 23rd, 2026, at approximately 11:11 p.m.

Officers on patrol responded to reports of gunfire and, upon arrival, quickly secured the area. They found a man with critical, life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died of his injuries. The victim has been identified as Wayne Versfelt, 69, who was a resident at the encampment.

Authorities say the investigation is still in its early stages. The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit is now handing the case over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), which will take the lead and provide updates as more information becomes available.
