Montreal, Quebec 2026 Homicide Victim List

Police were called to the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough at around 8:15 a.m. on January 1st, where they discovered a woman, Tadjan’ah Desir on the ground near the intersection of Ste-Catherine Street and Jeanne-d’Arc Avenue.

31-year-old James Theramene, was arrested at the scene and was charged with aggravated assault on January 2nd.

According to City News, Montreal Desir and Theramene were ex-partners.

Montreal police confirmed on the evening of January 5th 2026 that Tadjan’ah Desir passed away in hospital. Authorities say this marks the city’s first homicide of 2026.

According to preliminary information from the SPVM, the woman and the suspect were involved in an altercation on a balcony, which escalated before she was allegedly pushed from the third floor. The investigation remains ongoing.

Update: The charge against James Théramène, was upgraded to Manslaughter on January 15th.
