Calgary police are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred Friday evening in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue S.E.

Officers were called to the area at approximately 7 p.m. on Oct. 2 following reports of an assault involving a weapon. According to investigators, two men who knew each other became involved in a physical confrontation. During the altercation, one of the men allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the other.

The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died. The suspect left the area before police arrived and remains at large.

Investigators have since spoken with witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage as part of the ongoing investigation. Police are now releasing photographs of a man and woman who they believe may have information connected to the incident.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6.

“This was a brazen act of violence that claimed a person’s life,” said Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We are working to determine exactly what happened and are asking anyone with information to come forward.”
