Manitoba RCMP are investigating the suspicious death of a 17-year-old girl after her body was discovered in a wooded area in Pimicikamak Cree Nation.

Police were called at approximately 1:51 p.m. on August 23, 2026, after a body was found in a wooded area within the community.

Cross Lake RCMP officers responded to the scene and located the remains of an unidentified person.

An autopsy later confirmed the deceased was a 17-year-old female from the community who had been reported missing the previous day, on August 22.

According to police, the teenager was last seen by members of her family on August 17.

Investigators have classified her death as suspicious. The case has been taken over by Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services, which is working alongside Cross Lake RCMP to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police continue to gather information as they work to establish what happened to the teenager.
