Saskatchewan 2026 Homicide Victim List

Police say Buffalo Narrows RCMP received a report of an injured woman at a home in Turnor Lake at approximately 2:55 a.m. on May 8, 2026. Officers from both the Buffalo Narrows and La Loche detachments responded to the scene, where they found the injured woman inside the residence. A man was taken into custody outside the home.

Paramedics attended the scene and later confirmed the woman had died. The victim has been identified as Shalayah Montgrand of Turnor Lake. RCMP say her family has been notified, and victim support services are being provided.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit later assumed responsibility for the investigation. Following the investigation, 25-year-old Darian Montgrand, also from Turnor Lake, was charged with one count of manslaughter under Section 236(a) of the Criminal Code.

Update: RCMP announced July 6th 2026, that 25-year-old Darian Montgrand has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the May 8 killing of 21-year-old Shalayah Montgrand.
