Kings District RCMP said on May 1st police received a report of a murder that had occurred at a home on Pleasant St. in Kingsport on April 30.
Police said 72-year-old woman had been murdered and 71-year-old Douglas Andrew Smith had turned himself in at the New Minas RCMP Detachment.
Douglas Andrew Smith, 71, of Kingsport, has been charged with second-degree murder and appeared in Kentville Provincial Court on May 2. Smith was remanded into custody and will return to Kentville Provincial Court on June 2, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.
On April 1st 2025, Douglas Andrew Smith, admitted to smothering Iris Dodd, 72, who was found deceased in a recliner, and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
On September 29th 2026 Douglas Smith was sentenced to five years and seven months in federal custody. Smith also received a lifetime firearms prohibition and a DNA order.
