Police said information gathered at the medical call lead them to a wellness check at an apartment building on Cedarwoods Crescent where the found an 8-month-old boy deceased. The cause of death has not been released. The 26-year-old woman is the mother of the infant and has been charged with second-degree murder.

Update April 27th 2026
According to City News, the accused has been granted an absolute discharge in the 2020 death of her infant son.

She was previously found not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder after experiencing a severe psychotic episode, during which she fatally stabbed the child. Medical evidence showed she was suffering from hallucinations at the time and had a long history of mental health and substance use issues.

Since 2023, she has been living with family and receiving ongoing treatment, including care for schizoaffective disorder. A review board determined she no longer poses a significant risk to the public, noting her stability, compliance with medication, and lack of violent behaviour.

As a result, she was granted an absolute discharge, meaning she will not face further legal restrictions or have a criminal record.
