Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 700 block of Sargent Avenue for an apartment fire on January 3rd at approximately 9:30am.

 Firefighters searched the building and helped some residents evacuate. Paramedics rushed 23-year-old Star Alicia Thomas to hospital where she died of her injuries.

Winnipeg police said “Due to the nature of this death, the Homicide Unit took over the investigation.”
