Windsor Police said the investigation began on June 17, 2025, after a 33-year-old male inmate died while in custody at a facility located in the 4800 block of 8th Concession Road in Maidstone. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was fentanyl toxicity.
As detectives with the Windsor Police Service Major Crimes Unit looked into the circumstances surrounding the death, they determined that the victim had obtained fentanyl from another inmate.
On January 12, 2026, police arrested Damien Michael Ladouceur, also 33, in the 2400 block of Dougall Avenue. He now faces charges of manslaughter and trafficking in a controlled substance.
