On December 8, 2025, RCMP responded to a report of injured individuals at a home on Little Pine First Nation.

Officers found two people injured, providing first aid while EMS transported one adult to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A 43-year-old man, Tyrone Kakum, was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP arrested 24-year-old Keenan Starr, who faces charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault. Starr appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on December 10, 2025.
