Update – Two men charged with murder following the suspicious disappearance of 38-year-old Jamie Leard in Upper Cape NB

Police said Jamie Leard was last seen at a home on Upper Cape Road on May 26, 2021, and was reported missing on May 28th. Later in the day, on May 28th Leard’s vehicle was discovered abandoned on Main Street in Springhill, N.S.

On June 3rd, police responded to the report of human remains behind an abandoned mobile home on a dirt road known as Quarry Road in Coburg. Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP said in a press release, “We are still waiting for autopsy results and formal positive identification of the human remains located on June 3, however, investigators have gathered enough information to determine that Jamie Leard died as a result of homicide.”

On June 6, 37-year-old Henry Alexander Joseph Pottie and 28-year-old Sean Patrick Patterson, both of no fixed address appeared in Shediac Provincial Court on first degree murder charges.

Update May 4th, 2023
Henry Alexander Joseph Pottie who was on trial on a charge of first-degree murder, has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter on Monday May 1st.

Sean Patterson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder April 13.

According to reports jurors heard Leard’s burned remains were found covered by scrap metal in a hole behind an abandoned trailer home on June 3, 2021, in Coburg. Pottie’s lawyer said Pottie helped hide the body, however, he wasn’t involved in trying to burn the body.
