Troy Edward William Clayton pleads guilty to Manslaughter in the death of Benjamin Loka Lokeny

Troy Edward William Clayton, 52, has been charged with second-degree murder in the 2017 death of Benjamin Loka Lokeny. Lokeny, originally from South Sudan and living in Halifax, was found severely injured at the intersection of Buddy Daye and Gottingen streets on July 20, 2017.

According to reports, court documents state that Clayton punched Lokeny in the head, causing him to fall and strike his head on the sidewalk. Lokeny was hospitalized in a coma for over a month before dying from blunt force trauma to the head.

Clayton was arrested in Halifax in 2019, nearly two years after the attack, shortly after the case was listed in Nova Scotia’s Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes program, which offers up to $150,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. He initially pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder but entered a guilty plea to a lesser charge.

A Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge has handed him a six-year sentence.
