According to the Toronto Star, events began early Thursday morning (June 11th) when Toronto police officers were executing a search warrant near Trethewey Drive and Black Creek Drive. Police said that at approximately 5:42 a.m., an exchange of gunfire occurred during the operation, resulting in a Toronto police officer being shot. The injured officer was rushed to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
According to an officer at the scene, the operation involved Toronto Police’s Emergency Task Force (ETF), the service’s specialized tactical unit that responds to high-risk situations, including search warrant executions, incidents involving armed or barricaded individuals, and terrorism-related investigations.
Emergency communications reviewed by the Star later indicated that the officer had no vital signs when paramedics arrived. The officer was transported to Sunnybrook in critical condition, where he later died, while a 19-year-old male was also taken to hospital with injuries and is in custody at the hospital.
The victim has been identified as Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto. Marc served the Toronto Police Service for 18 years, including 5 years as a specially trained Emergency Task Force unit member.

Update: The accused who was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, Nicholas Bennett, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with:
- First Degree Murder
He was scheduled to appear remotely at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on June 19, 2026, in room 107.
Police also identified 19-year-old Zara Jabbi wanted in connection with the consulate shooting as an outstanding suspect and urged him to surrender, warning the public that he was considered armed and dangerous. On June 17, 2026, Jabbi was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm at a place, attacking the premises of internationally protected persons, possession of a firearm knowing its possession was unauthorized, and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
