Toronto police responded to an Unknown Trouble in the Kipling Avenue and Dixon Road area on August 18th at approximately 6:37pm on a report of two injured people.

Police arrived to find two women suffering from obvious trauma as a result of stab wounds. One victim was rushed to hospital with severe injuries but is expected to survive. The second victim, 84-year-old Elena Marcucci was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Michael Colastosti, 31, of Toronto was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.

Michael Colastosti who was previously found not criminally responsible for killing his grandmother and attempting to kill a caregiver has been granted an absolute discharge by the Ontario Review Board. Michael Colatosti was initially ruled to have been suffering from a serious mental illness during the 2018 attack, but the board determined he no longer poses a significant threat to public safety. The decision came despite concerns from his psychiatrist, as well as Ontario’s Attorney General and mental health officials, who recommended a conditional discharge with ongoing monitoring due to potential risks tied to stress and substance use.
