Update: Kalen Schlatter arrested in Toronto Homicide #56 – Tess Richey Died of Neck Compression

Tess Richey, 22, was reported missing by her family on on  Saturday, November 25th. Richey had gone out with friends on November 24th and was last seen in the early morning hours of November 25th in the Church Street and Wellesley Street East area.

Tess Richey was found dead on November 29th,  just outside of 582 Church Street, near an underground stairwell. An autopsy was completed on December 1st ruling the death to be a homicide and the cause of death to be Neck Compression.

Police are looking to identify an unknown man who was with Tess Richey after her friend departed the area. The man has been described as white, taller than the deceased, approximately 5’7” – 6’, slim build, light-coloured short hair.

On Sunday February 4th at approximately 11pm ,Toronto Police arrested Kalen Schlatter, 21, of Toronto. Schlatter was charged with the second degree murder of Tess Richey. Schlatter appeared at College Park Courts today, February 5th, he remains in custody.

Update March 23

Toronto Police confirmed that Kalen Schlatter is now facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of 22-year-old Tess Richey.
