Toronto Homicide 21 – Thi Nguyen Fatally Stabbed Near Fairview Mall

A woman is dead following a stabbing in Toronto’s Fairview Mall area, and police are actively searching for the suspect.

According to Toronto Police, officers responded to reports of a person with a knife at approximately 2:37 p.m. near Fairview Mall Drive and Don Mills Road. The incident was reported inside a residential building, where officers located a woman suffering from stab wounds.

Initially, police said the extent of the victim’s injuries was unknown. However, in a later update, investigators confirmed that the woman had been pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Thi Nguyen, 29, of Toronto.

The suspect fled the area before officers arrived and remains outstanding. Police have not yet released a description of the suspect or identified the victim.

Update July 19th: Police announced that her husband, Martin Ly, 28, of Vaughan, was arrested and charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking
  • First Degree Murder 

Court records obtained by the Toronto Star show that Martin Ly was arrested on July 14 in connection with an allegation that he assaulted his wife, Thi Nguyen, in December 2020. Following his arrest, Ly was released under court-imposed conditions while awaiting his next court appearance, rather than being held in custody.
