Toronto Homicide 16 – Police investigate the fatal stabbing of Ashkan Pournasir-Roudbane

On June 17, 2025, Toronto police responded to a stabbing near Danforth Avenue and Coxwell Avenue at  at 11:03 p.m.

A 36-year-old man, identified as Ashkan Pournasir-Roudbane of Toronto, was located with stab wounds behind a plaza. He was taken to hospital but did not survive.

The suspect, described as a man wearing a dark hoodie and a black face covering, was seen fleeing the scene. This marks Toronto’s 16th homicide of the year.

Update: On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the suspect was located in the area of Falls Avenue and Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls and was arrested by officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service.

Anthony Steven Oliveira, 24, of No Fixed Address, is charged with:

  1. First Degree Murder

According to The Durham Region Police on Sunday, June 1, 2025, around 10:30 p.m., police were called to Steeplechase Street and Windfields Farm Drive for reports of an armed person. A man allegedly pulled a knife on two people and attempted to stab one of them. No injuries were reported. The suspect fled before police arrived but has since been identified as Anthony OLIVEIRA, 24, of Oshawa. In that incident he was wanted for:

  • Two counts of Failing to Comply with a Probation Order
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
