Toronto police responded to reports of a stabbing in the area of The Queensway and Royal York Road on Sunday, April 27, 2025, around 9:20 a.m.

According to investigators, the victim and the suspect were in a motel room when the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim. Officers arrived quickly and arrested the suspect at the scene. The victim was rushed to a nearby trauma centre with life-threatening injuries but was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as Eligio Martinez Gomez, 50, of Toronto.

Tanas Shmagranovski, 57, who has no fixed address, has been charged with Second-Degree Murder. He appeared in court the same day at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre.
