Manitoba 2026 Homicide Victim List

In the early morning hours of February 27, 2026, officers with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in The Pas were called to a home on Connaught Avenue following reports of an assault.

When police arrived, they found a 33-year-old man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to hospital but later died.

As the investigation unfolded, a 22-year-old man who had already been taken into custody earlier that day on an unrelated matter was rearrested in connection to the homicide. Joey Campbell, of Saskatoon, has since been charged with second-degree murder.

The following day, February 28, RCMP in Thompson arrested 32-year-old Nicholas Halcrow-Jewels and also charged him with second-degree murder. Police say both arrests were carried out without incident.

Investigators had issued a warrant for 30-year-old Draven Lester Mercredi in connection with the killing. RCMP announced on April 9th that Draven Mercredi was taken into custody without incident.
