Steven Burns fatally stabbed in Thunder Bay, Khalid Ali Mohamed acquitted of murder in Thunder Bay

Thunder Bay police responded  to a reported stabbing incident in the 200 block of Park Avenue just after 9:35 p.m. on Sunday, October 17th.

Police located Steven Perry BURNS, 36, of Thunder Bay, suffering from serious injuries. BURNS was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

The suspect Khalid Ali MOHAMED, 25, of Toronto, was arrested later that day and charged with First-Degree Murder, Obstruct Peace Officer, and Failure to Comply with Release Order.

According to lakesuperiornews.com their sources said the drug related dispute between Burns and Mohamed started on Sunday October 17,2021 around 9:30pm inside Apartment 3 at 36 Cumberland Street South, the home of alleged local drug dealer Kylie Hancock.

Update April 1st 2025,
Khalid Ali MOHAMED, who was charged with murder in connection to a 2021 incident in Thunder Bay, has been acquitted. On March 31st Justice Danial Newton delivered his not guilty verdict,  Newton ruled in his favor, accepting his claim of self-defense.
