Update: Three men convicted in relation to 2021 Kyle Van Drunen homicide in Yarmouth Nova Scotia

Yarmouth Town RCMP responded to the report of a shooting at a home on King St on May 24th at approximately 11:30pm.

Police and paramedics located  41-year-old Kyle Van Drunen outside his home suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased.

According to reports, police were initially called to King Street, however, the incident is believed to have happened on Chester Street.

Update January 26th 2022
RCMP announved on January 25th 2022 that three men have been arrested and charged in connection to the murder of the 41-year-old man.

James Edmund Spurrell, 33, of Yarmouth, has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder. Spurrell was already in custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility on other matters when he was arrested.

Gordon Jack Hein, 38, of Barrington, has been charged with Assault with a Weapon. Hein was already in custody at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility on other matters when he was arrested.

Herbert Spurrell, 68, of Yarmouth, has been charged with Accessory After the Fact to Discharging a Firearm. Spurrell was arrested on January 21 in Yarmouth. He was later released on conditions and will appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 14, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

Update:
On March 30, 2023, Herbert Spurrell plead guilty to Accessory After the Fact and was sentenced to 2 years custody at a provincial facility.

On June 8, Gordon Hein plead guilty to Assault with a Weapon and, as a result of being convicted for a series of crimes committed in 2020 and 2021, Hein was sentenced to 6 years custody at a federal facility.

On June 23, James Spurrell plead guilty to Manslaughter with a Firearm and was sentenced to 5 years custody at a federal facility.
