Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit is investigating the suspicious death of a 24-year-old man on Montreal Lake First Nation.

Police say officers from Montreal Lake and Waskesiu RCMP were called to a residence on Montreal Lake First Nation at approximately 1:10 a.m. on June 1, 2026, after receiving a report of an injured male.

Upon arrival, officers located the man and immediately began providing first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have identified the victim as Steven Beatty, 24, of Timber Bay. His family has been notified of his death, and victim services support has been offered.

Following an initial investigation, RCMP determined the death was suspicious and transferred the case to the Saskatchewan RCMP Homicide Investigation Unit, which is now leading the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact Saskatchewan RCMP by calling 310-RCMP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

Investigators have not released further details and say updates will be provided as new information becomes available. RCMP added that the public will be notified immediately if any risk to public safety is identified.
