Partial female remains located in Winnipeg identified as June Christine Johnson

Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Curtis Street and Higgins Avenue for a report of possible human remains on April 15, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Police located the deceased person and investigators have not been able to confirm any details of the deceased person. A post-mortem examination is pending.

Update: Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit began an investigation when an unidentified female’s partial remains were discovered along the South Point Douglas neighborhood riverbank on April 15th.

Investigators have since identified the victim as June Christine Johnson who was 40, at the time of her death.

Winnipeg police said Homicide investigators have confirmed that June Johnson was last seen in February 2023 in the downtown area. 

June was known to frequent the downtown area, and any details about her whereabouts or people she interacted with between February and April, are considered helpful to investigators.
