Levon Byers Identified as Victim in Toronto’s 17th Homicide; Second Person Injured

Toronto police are investigating a deadly shooting near Victoria Park Avenue and Highway 401 that left one person dead and another injured on Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 3:20 p.m. on July 6th, where they located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified as Levon Byers, 32, of Toronto.

A second victim was found near Victoria Park Avenue and Sheppard Avenue and was transported to hospital by emergency run. The extent of their injuries has not been released.

Hakim El Mozazi, 28, of Toronto, was initially arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm without a licence
  • Possession of a restricted firearm while knowingly not holding a licence
  • Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded regulated firearm

Following further investigation, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, investigators laid an additional charge of second-degree murder against El Mozazi.
