A fatal assault in Calgary’s Capitol Hill neighbourhood is now the focus of a homicide investigation after a 23-year-old man died from his injuries.

Police say officers responded to reports of an assault involving a weapon at approximately 4:53 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, in the 1300 block of 20 Avenue N.W. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital but later died.

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim has been identified as 23-year-old Dale Weasel Head.

One person was initially taken into custody in connection with the incident but has since been released without charges. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault, and no further details have been released.
