Montreal Police received a 911 call around 1 a.m. on November 14th about a shooting in an apartment in the Mercier Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. Initial reports indicate that suspects entered the apartment, an altercation occurred with the residents, and gunfire followed before the suspects fled.

Police said the victim, 21-year-old man, died of injuries in hospital, making him the city’s 30th homicide victim. A 17-year-old boy who was also shot during the same incident is expected to recover.

Const. Jeanne Drouin, a spokesperson for Montreal police, said the major crimes unit is investigating the death, which appears to be linked to a home invasion.

The apartment’s occupants were a 39-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man. The woman suffered a minor hand injury, while the man was unharmed.
